The Wilne 10k road race takes place on Sunday 1st September 2024 at 10am. This is a fast and flat 10km race suitable for all runners. Please read the full Event Guide prior to race day.
Race under UK Athletics Rules – UKA Licence number 2024-46902.
General
Running numbers must be worn for the race and pinned to the front of your running vest. It is also a race requirement that you write on the back of your running number your name, address, emergency contact details and any medical conditions. If you have recorded any medical conditions, please mark the front of your running number with a red ‘X’.
Running numbers are non-refundable and non-deferrable. Any athlete found to be running with any number other than that issued to them will be disqualified and reported to UK Athletics.
In accordance with UK Athletics Rules, no one under the age of 15 years on race day will be permitted to participate in the 10k race.
Due to the 10k course being one and three-quarter laps, the course is not wide enough along the penultimate straight to accommodate wheelchair users either overtaking or being overtaken by other runners. This is on grounds of health and safety to protect both the runners and wheelchair users.
Chip Timing (attached to your Race Number)
The race will be using a chip timing system to ensure the runners’ results are as accurate as possible.
The timing chip will be attached to your Race Number – please do not bend or remove it otherwise you will not receive a result. Race Numbers and the attached timing chip do not need to be returned.
Toilet/Changing Facilities
There will be portable toilets located in the Race Village. Please allow plenty of time to use these facilities as they will become very busy prior to the race. Do not urinate in residents’ gardens or elsewhere.
Race Start
The 10k race will start on Sawley Road at 10am prompt. The start is 500m to the left when leaving the event car park. In order to provide some social distancing on the start line, runners will be called to the start area from 9.40am in groups of 400 according to race number. Runners will be spaced out on the start line and there will be one start wave. Race numbering will be based on predicted finish times.
Please be patient at all times in the start area and do not get over-concerned if you have missed your call to the start line. Runners based at the back of the field will be able to see their own personal chip time. Please listen carefully to marshals’ instructions at all time.
Race Photography & Results
Photos will be taken during the event and will be on the Wilne 10k website following the event. The results will be compiled by FR Systems and these are expected to be online shortly after the race.
Pacers
Northern Pacer Volunteers will be taking part in the race and will be pacing every 5 minutes from 40 minutes to 75 minutes (40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75).
Listening to music
You should not wear earphones/personal audio players during the race. This is for your own safety and the safety of others around you. Although the route has been designed as traffic free, you must be alert at all times to directions given to you by marshals in case of an emergency situation.
